HONOUR OF MINISTER.

A MEMBER’S ALLEGATION

PRIME MINISTER TAKES ACTION

FROM OCJR PARLIAMENTARY REPORTER WELLINGTON, July 22

“I don’t wish to make a fuss, but the member for Patea must realise that his remarks cannot be allowed to go for nothing,” was the opinion expressed by the Prime Minister in the House this afternoon, when he invited Mr Corrigan to say whether he had secured the confirmatory information he had promised to obtain regarding his recent allegation that a Minister was interested in some land near a railway station on the Helensville line. Mr Coates added that he would like this information as soon as possible, and he wished to know whether Mr Corrigan would communicate to the House whether rt was confirmatory or otherwise. It was a well-recognised principle of Parliament that where the personal honour of any' member was involved it was usual to clear it up in such way that it would be satisfactory to Parliament and to the country. ’ “For that reason I hope the member for Patea will take an early opportunity of telling the House whethesr th© matter is cleared up to his satisfaction or otherwise.”

Mr Corrigan replied that he had written for the information immediately after making the statement, and he would communicate it to the House as soon as it was available. “I do not wish to do any member an injustice,” he added, “nor do I wish an injustice done to me. When I get the information I will he man enough, if I am wrong, to apologise.” Mr Parry: “What about, the flying school ?” Mr Corrigan did not. reply.
