MINING CRISIS.
CONFERENCE MAY EVENTUATE,
BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. LONDON, July 21. Negotiations relative to the coal crisis are now more likely to eventuate. As a result of the pressure on the owners to withdraw, their proposals, the owners, after a meeting of the Court of Inquiry, sent a letter, to Mr Cook proposing a meeting for the purpose of exploring the misunderstanding of the owners’ position. They feel sure it will show there is now no difference between, the parties on this preliminary point. 1 The miners’ executive will consider the letter to-morrow morning, and, if it considers the employers’ assurances satisfactory, a goint meeting will possiblv be held in the afternoon. LONDON, July 22. The conference, of transport workers at Scarborough passed a resolution empowering the executive to co-operate with the Trade Union Congress Council in assisting the miners to resist to the utmost the imposition of the proposed conditions, and also demanding the unconditional reopening of negotiations.
