Th© taxi telephone hox, which has been the subject of protracted negotiations between the taximen and. the Borough Council, is now an accomplished .fact, the work having been carried out by the council, and the taximen having agreed on a. rent of £8 for the coming year, which, with the ’phone rent, will bring the annual cost up to £lB. The box looks very neat, hut it is stated, that the taximen could have suggested an improvement in the form of a window on the side facing the business end of High Street, so that a sign “Taxi ’phone” lettered on the glass would he plainly displayed at night when the light inside the box was on. There is no doubt, however, that when the telephone is installed the box will be found very serviceable.
