A Sydney telegram reports the death of ex-Judge Franci s Edward Rogers, at the age of 84 years. Mr J. R. Corrigan, M.P., .returned from Wellington on Saturday evening, but after a busy week-end will leave for the capital again to-morrow. Nli-. Cuthbert East has been appointed editor of the Wanganui Chronicle, and will take up his duties in a few weeks. Mr. East is a New Zealander, and was educated at Christ’s College and Canterbury College, where he took Ins B.A. degree. Tie was for some years on the staff of the Lyttelton Times as sub-editor and a leader-writer, and subsequently was managing editor of the Timaru Rost. J. Gilbert, a member and stalwart, pillar of the young men’s -senior class, who will he leaving Jlawera this week for Wellington, where he has iceeived an appointment in the accountancy branch of the Public Tni.sit Office. Mr. E. K. Cameron, on behalf of riio combined classes, wished Mr. Gilbert God-speed and every success in bis now career, accompanying these wishes with the gift of a handsome travelling rug. In an earnest reply. Mr. Gilbert, who is a member of a sister denomination, said that bis association with tho Presbyterian Bible Classes of Hiawera had left an indelible imprint on his life. He thought that it was lie who should he making any presentation, for he felt that he was the debtor. Mr. Gilbert’s removal will leave a wide gap in the young people’s organisations of both tiie Anglican and Presbyterian Churches of the town. His cheerful readiness to lend a hand at every turn, and his sincere, practical Christianity, have won him a high office- in tiie regard of all who have' been associated with him.
