RIVER-BED GOLD.

ANOTHER RUSH TO AFRICAN MOUNTAINS. Another rush on a considerable scale to the Lupa gold diggings, in the Livingstone Mountains, between Lakes Tanganyika and Nyassa, 'is starting. It is claimed -that the area of discovery (first- reported in June, 1923) is extending rapidly. A gold reef is reported to have been found in the bed of the Lupa, Sira and Luika rivers. Any unclaimed rights in this area have now been reserved by the Government. Already 100 whites and 14,000 natives are engaged -ait the diggings, and many others are on the way there. The situation is complicated by the quarantine regulations, as there is sleepy sickness in the neighbouring districts. Also, owing to abnormally late rains, there is a shortage of native food stuffs.
