BOWLING

ENGLISH TEAM’S VISIT. ARRIVING IN DECEMBER. An Auckland correspandent writes as follows to a- Southern paper: No official details of the proposed tour of English bowlers next summer have yet been announced, except the bare intimation by cable that they were leaving by the Naldera on September 25. From Australia, however, comes the full itinerary, and it i s very pleasing to note that the party will apparently spend more time in New Zealand than in Australia. The information comes in the form of a'private letter to a friend in Sydney from Mr. Melbourne Orchard, a New Zealander now resident in London who lias organised the whole scheme. No dates are given, except the date of departure from London, • mil the final date when they leave Auckland by the Tainui oil February 27 Three days will he spent in Perth, live in Adelaide, ten days ( “ a( 'li m Melbourne and Sydney, and three day s in Brisbane. They will then sad from Sydney to Auckland, and work through New Zealand as far as the Dominion tournament at Dunedin, returning to Auckland latter jvi, siting other centres, and the Rotorua tournament. Allowing for all the time lost in travelling round Australia, it seems to work out that they ought to arrive in Auckland a few days before Christmas, and as Mr. Orchard .indicate,, that all the local programmes will he fixed up by the local authorities. it may be possible to get them into our own Christmas tournament before they move on. Mr. Orchard is a champion bowler, having won the Lonsdale Trophy, which in London is esteemed as the principal laurel of the game. Sydney Bowling Life states that no howler in London is held in higher esteem than Mr. Orchard, who by his cheerio disposition is an ever welcome guest at every howling green. . The following points in his letter will he read with interest: “The official communication will go out in due course. The dates arranged by me are going to be strictly adhered to. It was necessary to take up that attitude, otherwise the trip might have been impossible as time will be the essence of the contract. The team will comprise thirty-two players, and with the few ladies going, will make a total number of forty. It will go out under the auspices of the International Bowling Board, which, as you know, comprises England Scotland, and Ireland and Wales. The president of the English Bowling Association is going to he one of the party. I feel sure that this team will be a good one, from a playing standpoint, and great pains are being taken to send tip-top players. The champion of England is going; that may he a draw. I am - sure they will have a glorious time amongst you all, and their trip will do an immense amount of good, apart from bowling.”
