COMPENSATION FOR CREW. BY CABLE —PRESS - ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received July 10.50 a.m SYDNEY, July 11. It is authoritatively stated in laiboiir circles that' the Federated Seamen’s Union had received £SOO as compensation for losses sustained by the original crew of the Commonwealth’s chartered steamer Volumnia. The source of the payment is unknown. It was only after the compensation claim had been met that the Union allowed its members to man Commonwealth vessels. MUST JOIN UNION. SYDNEY, July 11. The 'Minisiter for Agriculture, Mr. Dunn, has issued instructions that employees at various institutions and branches of his department must he members of union* appropriate to their callings.
