HOCKEY.
FIRST ROUND COMPLETED. The first round of the men’s hockey competition was completed on Thursday, 'when Elitham dele ailed Stratford at Stratford by nine goals to nil. Straltford were without the services of several of their best payers and, under the circumstances, put uip a very good fight against a- very .strong combination. The following is the position of the teams: —-
AIID-AVEEK GAMES. At Stratford, on Thursday, Eltham defeated the home eleven by nine goals to nil. Goals were registered by Irwin (4), Lambie (3), Pennington and Jackson. On AVednesday Kaponga, on their own ground, defeated Alanaia by eight goals to nil. The scorers were AV. Bennie (.4), Kelielv (3) and Free. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. At a meeting of the executive of the Taranaki Hockey Association at Eltham, it was decided that the fixing of the date for the AATmganui-Tarauaki rep. match, to be played at Eltham, he left in the hands of the president and secretary. The executive resolved that all matches should commence at 3 p.m. sharp. AD C. Pennington was appointed sole selector for the rep. teams.— A rgus.
