THE GRAND—TO-NIGHT. . “I AM THE MAN.” The appearance of' Lionel Barrymore on a local screen is always an event that arouses great anticipations. Mr. Barrymore is scheduled to appear at the Grand Theatre this evening in li.iiS latest photoplay, “I. Am the Man,” a> title' which, added to Mr. Barrymore’s name, should pack the building. BA WEE A ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY. CONCERT ON THURSDAY. The Orchestral Society will on Thursday next in the Opera House give the first concert of its fifth season. The society was fortunate in securing as conductor Mr H. C. A. Fox, and under his expert guidance the members have made wonderful progress. The strength of the orchestra will be 42 performers, and every part of the modern orchestra will be in operation. The items to he played will please all tastes, and will mcucle: Entracte, ‘‘A Distant Greeting” (Coring); overture, “Stradella” (Flotow); selection from Verdi’s overture, “II Trovatore”; three tone poems, “Moon Moths” (Kussner); intermozzio, “Liebestrnuni” (Von Blon); characteristic piece, ‘‘Bells across the Meadows” (Ketelby).

The society will have the assistance of Miss Teresa McEnroe, the brilliant Wellington soprano, lately returned from a special course of study in Italy; Mr A. Carson, a fine basso from Eltharn. who is very popular in South Taranaki; and Mr Matthew Newberry, the well-known Hawera violinist. Miss D. Joll will he the accompaniste, and her good work has made her popular. Seats may he reserved free of extra charge at Airs Cook’s shop at the Opera House. The society has done good work in the past, and members are shaping specially well and deserve the hearty support of the people of town and district.

OPERA HOUSE, HAWERA. A FIXE BILL. There is an excellent programme at present being offered at the Opera House, the continuation of a fine series of pictures and the “Sunset Four” coloured male quartette making a splendid entertainment. “The Sunset Four” last night were again accorded hearty applause for their accomplished work. The feature film for the evening was “Her Night of Romance.” During- the story ’s screening, which has many humorous features, many handsome frocks ‘ are displayed, a most pleasing feature with the ladies. The same programme will be presented- at to-day’s matinee and also this evening, when “The Sunset Four” make their final appearance.
