SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (Freni Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Manaia School Committee was held on Monday evening. Ml members were present. A letter was -received from Mr. O. Haw ken in reference to the piopo.sed new room. The headmaster (Mr. Nairn) repoited that the attendance was being well maintained, and that much difficulty was being experienced in tiie organisation of the; classes' owing to the overcrowded state of the school. The resignation of Mr. C. Jones was received. The chairman paid a tribute to Mr. Jones’ splendid work during the three yeans lie had served on thc> committee, and it was resolved that the good services lie had rendered ho placed on record. Other members also spoke iin complimentary terms of his good work, and his resignation was re- ! ceived with much regret.

It was decided to hold a working bee on Thursday, the 'lftih, to put a concrete floor in the new woodshed and gravel the front of the boys' shelter-shed. , A resolution moved by llev. 'Roberts, that the committee support Mr. fsitt’s Bible in School Bill, was carried. Other resolutions carried wore : (I) Tliat the monthly meeting be changed from Friday to the first Monday in the month. (2) That in view of tiie increased attendance, and the extra, cleaning required in connection with the High School, that the board be .tasked for extra capitation. (}}) That Messrs. Parry and Spanner he the visiting committee for the ensuing month.
