Police warders at midnight thought to surprise the Parkhurst prisoner who escaped from the prison chapel and took refuge on the roof, hut he was wide awake. Sheltered behind a chimney, he sent out a fusilade of slates, but the warders were not hurt and overpowered the convict, whom they roped up and lowered to the ground.
