A POLICE SENSATION.
CHARGES AT FREMANTLE. MANY CONSTABLES CONCERNED. Recent developments in police circles at Fremantle, West Australia, indicate intense dissatisfaction and dissension. Sixteen policemen are concerned in various internal disputes, m each ol which failure in duty i.s alleged to have been sleeping on. a large doormat in the main street at night, when they should have been on their beat. Two policemen are concerned in regard to a charge of the disposal of goods by a in.au certified insane. Six others have received a “please explain” from headquarters with regard to evidence tendered in a case in which a man charged with drunkenness was discharged on the evidence of three constables, while three others gave evidence for the prosecution. Another case exercising the minds of officials is one in which a detective and two warders are alleged to have been found by policemen on hotel premises after hours.
