(From Our Own Correspondent.) SCHOOL COMMITTEE, The monthly meeting oi the River- j lea Seliooi Committee was held on .Tuesday, when there were present : Messrs B. L. Webby (chairman), .). Stables, and M. F. Voullaire. Apolo-1 gies for absence were received from the secretary, Mr. McLeod, owing to illness, and from Mr. Lonsdale owing to absence on other business. Leave of . absence was granted to both members. I Mr. Mills, headmaster, was also present.

Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows: From the returning officer of Egmont electorate re the use of school for Parliamentary election.—Received.

From Wellington Navy League re Palmer prize for essays.-—Referred to the headmaster.'

From the Taranaki Education Board re gates and flag pole, stating that thi s . matter would be gone into at the next board meeting.—Received. Same re lesson hooks in certain cases. —Received. A number of circulars from the Bible-in-Schools League were also received. Accounts amounting to £4 17s fid were passed for payment. The matter of cleaning out of drain at the bottom of newlv-sown playing held was left in the hands of the chairman.

The chairman’,, action in granting a part holiday for the Hawera Show was confirmed.

The headmaster reported that some more fuel would be required before the 2nd of the winter, and it was resolved to secure three more sacks of coal. ACCIDENT.

I hope to hear soon of young Jimmy Carhis’s speedy recovery from the serious accident (already reported in The Star) which betel him on his way to school on Tuesday morning, ancl, on behalf of the district of Biverlea. to express sincere sympathy with Mr. and Mrs. Carbis.
