RUM RUNNERS.
INTENSIVE ACTION BY U.S. GOVERNMENT. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT NEW YORK, July 7. A telegram from Swampscott, Mass., states that .President Coolidge has ordered the coast patiol to attack a fleet of rum runners plainly visible from the President’s summer residence there. General Andrews, chief of the prohibition enforcement, is concentrating guardsmen afloat and ashore to prevent bootleggers’ ships supplying Boston and manufacturing town s iii Massachusetts. President Coolidge is expected to recommend a larger appropriation for enforcement in the event of the failure of the attack. Swampscott is a favourite haunt for smugglers, owing to the number of its bays and inlets. A three thousand dollar liquor cache was recently discovered in an unoccupied house ' adjoining the President’s residence, resulting in the arrest of the chief of police at Swampscott.
