At the Rugby Union I Management Committee meeting at Stratford last night, a resolution of sympathy with the Roberts family in the death of Osie Roberts was passed in silence. A postponement of the visit of the Governor-General (Sir Chan'es F-ergus-son) and Lady Alice Fergusso n to New Plymouth next week has been necessitated owing to the indisposition of His Excell&ncy. Mr. E. R.. S. Dale, formerly accountant at the Invercargill b'anen of the Commercial Bank of Australia,! Ltd., and for the past twelve months subaccountant at the Wellington office, has been promoted to the position of manager at Hawera. The Star's Whareroa correspondent writes: —The farewell social to Mr. 11.. Gate and family eventuated on Tuesday evening, and was a highly successful affair. Mr. N. Coburn supplied the music, which was supplemented by Piper A. G. Quin and Drummer Booth, 'of the Highland Pipe Band. Mr. Rol.it. Hicks, on behalf of the local residents, ■ presented Mr Cate with a silver tea service, accompanying the presentation wilth a .suitable speech, to which- Mr. Cate feelingly replied. Mr H. St off erf, also spoke in eulogistic terms of his retiring neighbour. The gathering concluded with dancing, which was continued with vigour far into the night.
