At the meeting of the Paten Licensing Committee thi s morning the chairman (Mr. J. S. Barton S.M.) referred to the death of Air. Herbert Graves, for ‘several years a member of the committee. A motion of sincere condolence with Airs. Graves and family was passed, all members standing a few moments out of respect to the memory of Air. Graves.

A pres s cable message from Paris reports that Lord Islington, who was recently operated on by a French specialist (Dr. Boyer) for kidney trouble, was making excellent progress, and it was expected that be would soon be completely recovered.

A Press Association message from Christchurch reports the death of Mr 11. C. Bishop, aged 78, until lately general manager of the Christchurch Gas Company. He has lived for seventy-five yea ft; in Canterbury, ’ having arrived as n boy on one of the historical four ships. He was a senior member of the Grand Masonic Lodge of New Zealand.
