There were between two and three hundred deaths in the larger cities of the United States a s a result of Independence Day celebrations and weekend outings. Fatalities due to fireworks and explosives at the hands of celebrants were gratifvingly small, but there wn s an alarming increase in traffic and drowning accidents. The number injured is approximately 1500. The most deaths were at Boston, where the removal of debris at the Pickwick Club, where the building collapsed. revealed the crushed bodies of fifty dancers.
