A TOSSING INCIDENT. GIRLS’ SPORTING SPIRIT. U Y CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPY ItlGliv. LONDON, June 16. An incident in the meeting of Misses Boyd and Alihurst in tossing the coin greatly amused the Australians in London because of its typical Australian sporting spirit. Miss Akhurst said it was “silly to think we have ■come all the way from Australia to play each other. We are such good friends, and I don’t like the idea of one putting the other out,” so they tossed and then the loser announced a walk-over. Miss Akhurst was disappointed at not meeting Mrs Lycett, who withdrew, but had a doughty opponent in Mrs Gougli, who is a player of note in India.

Anderson again practised at Wimbledon, playing singles against Barclay and Lyeett. He beat the former comfortably, o—(h0 —(h o—2, 6—3, and was leading Lyeett, 6 —o, 3 —l, when the latter, feeling indisposed, had to return to the pavilion.
