A MERGER PROPOSAL

DISCUSSED AT ELTHAM

A discussion arose over a letter from Mr. O. Buckman, Moeroa, in i.iucii that gentleman applied to have ins property merged in the Eitham count j.

Mr. Buc-Kman also forwarded a lecter from the Hawera County 'Council, agreeing to the merger provided such a step was acceptable to the Eltham pounty Council. It was pointed out that there was no Hawera road within 20 miles of Mr. Buckman’s propery, whereas the Eltham roads ran alongside. Cr. R. J. Knucaey said there were other properties in the Hawera county which were in the same position, and should be brought into the Eltham county. Cr. McWilliam said that some time ago a move had been made to bring certain properties into the Eltham county, but at that time the Hawera rate had been Id and the Eltham rate 3d. The Eltham County had maintained the roads to the properties when they might a s well have kept the money in their pockets. . The chairman (Cr. C. J. Belcher) said that the question was whether Eltham would give Hawera certain Omona sections, but Cr. McWilliam said there would be no sections available in exchange.

The council decided to agree to Mr. Buckman’s request to have his property merged in the Eltham county.
