At the meeting of the Hawera County Council to-day, Crs Walsh and Larcoin were appointed to represent the Council on the general committee set up for looking after and entertaining the delegates for the N.D.A| annual meeting in July. At to-day's meeting of the Hawerh County Council, Cr. R. B. Douglas handed in liis resignation as a member. He said this had been rendered necessary on account of the state of his health and he had to go away for an extended holiday. The chairman said he supposed they would have to accept the resignation, hut they did so with regret, for they were sorry to lose a good councillor who had done useful work for the county. They all hoped Cr. Douglas would return from his trip much benefited in Health. Speaking for the staff, the clerk (Mr. Harding). voiced the regret they all felt and hoped the council would he successful in getting as good a representative in his place. Cr. Douglas thanked all most sincerely, and said he would he leaving for the Old Country on June 10. At the Supreme Court at Palmertson North, in the action in which May Gibson nroceeded against Harry Rav, an ex-billiard saloon proprietor, claiming £IOOO damages for alleged slander, the jury, after a retirement of three hours, returned a verdict for defendant with costs on the highest scale. —Press Assn.
