HOCKEY TOURNAMENT.

ON KING’S BIRTHDAY. PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS MADE. Preliminary arrangements for the ladies’ hockey tournament, which will again be held at King Edward Park, Hawera, on June 3rd (King’s Birthday), were made by the tournament committee last night. There were present: Misses D. Maehin, D. Nairn, D. Clement and E. Strange, and Messrs E. Sage, S. J. Catran, and C., E. Morrissey. Apologies for absence were received from the representatives of the Hawera Technical High School and Misses Lvall and Reid. Mr C. E. Morrissey was voted to the chair.

The annual report and balance-sheet, which dsiclosed a credit of £l6 6s 3d, were read and adopted. A request by the Waitana Ladies’ Hockey Club, that its team be allowed to play in black jersey with white collars, was granted. Misses D. Maehin and D. Clement were appointed joint secretaries for the tournament. Mr C. E. Morrissey was appointed manager and Mr Catran treasurer. Following on a decision to close entries on May 27, a discussion regarding late entries took place. It was pointed out that last year the whole programme had to be re-drawn owing to two entries being sent in late, and it was decided that no late entries be accepted this year. It was further decided that the tournament should commence at 10 a.m. sharp, and that the entrance fee for each team entered'be 5s Cd, teams not to exceed twelve, including one emergMr Catran and the secretaries were appointed a sub-committee to circularise clubs drawing attention tO' the tournament. - The appointment of referees was left to the manager. Admission charges were fixed at the same as last year. A report regarding the presentation by the tournament committee of a silver cup, which was competed for at Kaponga last year by primary school teams, was presented by Mr Catran.
