LOCAL MARKETS

BURNSIDE MARKET. DUNEDIN, May 6. There were no appreciable changes in prices at Burnside to-da.v. There were a greater number of heavy weight wethers and ewes forward, resulting in a firming of prices by about 2s. per head. Freezing buyers competed keenly for medium weight wethers and ewes and these also sold firmer. Extra prime wethers sold up to 575, prime from 46s to 50s, good from 42& to 445, medium 35s to 38s Bd. extra prime ewes up to 475, prime from 34s to 375, freezing ewe s from 26s to 2hs, light from 21s to 245.

Lambs.—Tne small yarding contained a number of sorts only tit for graziers. Competition lor all prime quality beasts was good, while graziers bought forward sorts jfreely. Extra heavies sold to 445, prime from 37s to 39s medium from 33s ti 34s good rape lambs from 31s to 32s 6d.

Fat Cattle. —The entry »as made up principally of medium quality cows and heifers, very few extra prime bullocks being forward. Competition was fair and prices were a little higher. Pigs.—Several pens of prime baconers were included, and fats sold at about last week’s rates. Prices for stores reduced from 2s to 3s.

At Addington to-day there was a small yarding of all classes. It w ; as a ■ery sound sale in all sections, with a shade of improvement for fat sheep :ind a pronounced firming for fat cattle.

Fat Lambs. —Extra prime lambs, to 45s Id; prime,- 38s to 425; medium, 34s 6d to 37s Gd; light, 31s 6d to 345; store lambs. 27s to 31s.

Fat Sheep.—A better sale all round for good mutton by Is to Is 6d a head on last week. Extra prime wethers, •o 565; prime, 43s 6d to 455; medium, 38s 6d to 425; light, 33s to 38s; extra prime ewes, 43s lOd; prime, 37s to 40s; medium, 33s 6d to 36s 6d; light, 29s to 335; aged, 23s lOd to 28s. Fat Pigs.—A good entry and an average sale. Choppers, £3 to £7 ; baconers, £3 15s to £6 4 S (average price per lb, 6id.); porkers, £2 Ss to £3 14s average price per lb, 7ifd to 9d).
