FIRE AT ARARATA.

HOUSE BURNT TO GROUND. NOTHING SAVED. Fire this morning totally destroyed the residence of Mr H. James at Opeke Downs, Ararnta. It appears that most of the family were at the milking - shed some distance away from the house, when they noticed smoke, which caused them to make investigations. They found the house burning furiously, and were unable to save anything from the flames, which quicklv demolished the building. Mr James, ‘senr., and his daughter-in-law and her child were in the house at the time of the outbreak, but the fire spread so rapidly that they hard'.v had time to get out themselves without taking any of their possessions. Even a five-pound note was burnt in a oocket- in some clothes. The furniture was insured in the Phcenix office for £7O, hut insurances on the house, which was owned by Mr I>. J. "Willis, are not available.
