A NOVEL RAILWAY.
There is at present a railway in course of construction in London that possesses many original and novel features. This is the Post Office Tube Railway, which is being built to convey mail .matter between the principal railway stations and district parcel offices. The line extends between Paddington and Whitechapel, a distance of about 6f miles, and runs in a tunnel 9 feet diameter at a depth of 30 to 80 feet below the surface. The trains, which will be electrically driven, will be operated from control cabins at the different stations along the, line, the system being' similar to the power operated point and signal method in use on certain railways, hut in this case applied to the operation of the train itself.
