RIFLE SHOOTING

DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS

TO-DAY’S RESULTS

(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATIONTRIENTHAM, May 2. After a boisterous night, with, some passing showers, the morning broke fine but threatening. A start Was made promptly at 8 o’clock with the third range (600 yards) of the opening match. The sun made a few brief ■appeal antes, and then the clouds took pos, session overhead and at slight drizzle made the men don overcoats. This, however, soon, ceased, and by 10 o’clock conditions were more settled with a dull steady light and slow moving fish-tail breeze, mostly from the left rear. The first men down were the least fortunate, as the wind occasionally came in gusts that proved very disconcerting, but those who struck quiet patches compiled good cards. Of these the tvro Gibson, of P'apaknio. who had yesterday got on a “possible” at 200 yards, and 34 at 300, was one. He put on 31 and rose from the mound with a total of 101, a fine score. As this is ‘Strictly an A grade match, he only takes first prize in the B grade, although his score is the best on the range. In the belt matches, this restriction will not apply, .so that the tyro will then, take whatever prize, A or B grade, his score qualifies for. Another tyro, Dudgeon (Nelson), came back with 32, 34, and added 30. making him 96. Among.the A, grade J. O. Feast (Greytown) finished strongly with 31, 33,.33 —IOO, thus winning the match.
