MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

SITTING CONCLUDED. The Hawera Magistrate’s Court, over which Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., presided, concluded its sitting yesterday afternoon. Frank IVlilham made , application for a variation of a maintenance order in respect of his wife, while on the other hand the wife proceeded against her husband lor disobedience of the order. The magistrate dismissed the application for variation, and for disobedience of the order convicted and sentenced Milham to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour, he to be released on payment of £lO on account of the arrears.

An application for change of venue was made bv T. Priest in the case of W. G. Walldey, as receiver for the debenture-ho'ders of J. Blake and Sons v. T. Priest. Mr Matthews, instructed by Mr L. M. Moss, of New Plymouth, appeared in support of the application, and stated that the material cause of the action arose at New Plymouth. The application, however, was refused. Harrell Bros. (Mr L. A. Taylor) pro-, reeded against H. Ngarewa (Mr G. H. Brodie) on a claim for .-fid 19s 6d, being the amount of a debt for timber supplied. For the defence it. was stated that Ngarewa was only acting for his father, but- the magistrate he'd that the defendant was responsible for the amount, and judgment was accordingly entered for £3 19s Gd, with costs amounting to £2 10s.
