USE BY AMERICA

PROPOSAL NOT DISCUSSED

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT •Received March 19, 10 a.m. LONDON, March 18.

Speaking in the House of Commons, in reply to the question whether any kind of understanding, existed between the American and British naval authorities, and whether the possibility of the American use of the proposed naval base at Singapore had ever been discussed, Mr Austin Chamberlain replied that the answer to the second part of the question was plainly in the negative. He was not sure whether he understood the first part of the question, so had confined himseli to saving that so far as lie knew there was not any understanding. He hoped there would never lie any misunderstanding between the British and American authorities. —Reuter.
