FARMERS’ UNION
The meeting of the Manaia branch of the Farmers’ Union called on Saturday night .last to form a committee to arrange for treatment of herds in the district yvith mammitis vaccine was poorly attended. As the number present was insufficiently representative, it was decided to abandon the idea at present. The policy of farmers locally is ‘‘Wait and see,” in view of the exhaustive tests at present being carried out by the Department of Agriculture. Advice has come to hand that farmers’ classes will be held in Manaia this year. Manaia branch of the Farmers’Union last May made representations, through the provincial' executive, to be favourably considered this year, with the above result. The chairman and secretary of Manaia branch have been instructed to meet the deputy-chairman of the Waimate West Demonstration Area, with the idea of making preliminary arrangements. Different agricultural subjects'are dealt with each day hy respectiy e experts from the Agriculture Department, and demonstrations in practical manner are given wherever possible. These classes, yvhen held in other centres, have commended themselves to practical farmers, as seen by the attendance at each lecture. It is hoped that Manaia and district will not be found yvanting in this respect.
