TRADERS TERRORISED.
PETITION TO POLICE.
BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT MELBOURNE, March 17. A deputation of traders from Prahran waited on the Chief Secretary- to-day demanding the services of more police to concentrate on watching gangs of > known criminals, who are idle in the streets all day, arrogantly boasting of their immunity front law, and robbing business nlares and homes every night. The deputation also stated that organised gangs of the worst criminals in the State had concentrated their activities in Prahran, terrorising traders in the main streets and defying the police. They added that business people in Prahran were being subjected to a reign of terror, and asked for an amendment of the Police Offences Act, making it an offence to consort with known criminals.
The Chief Secretary promised to deal with the trouble. He stated that 'Amendments to the Police Offences Act were being drafted..
