At a meeting of the Buller Hospital Board at Westport it was decided to request the Government to remove the duty on imported flour, or in the alternative to .subsidise bakers in mining districts bv 2d per 41b loaf, with the condition that they sell the loaf at one shilling. It was pointed out that the miners’ awards made no provision for this extra cost of living.
