HOSPITAL STAFFS.
HONORARY SYSTEM. PROPOSED CONFERENCE. Objection to the system prevailing in many hospitals ql ; having a number of medical men as honorary members of the staff was expressed by Dr. Valintine, Director-General of Health, in a communication from him to the Hawera Hospital Board .received at the meeting yesterday. ' Dr. Valintiue said his opinion was that the system was obsolete, and wiiere necessary Boards should pay for assistance by outside practitioners. This opinion was also expressed by the Waikato Board, which stated that they were in strong opposition tp. honorary staffs. ’ 1 111 view of these differences of opinion, th© Director-General said he considered it advisable to call a- conference and had fixed th£ date as March 25. '
The matter was briefly, . discussed,, members expressing the opinion that honorary staffs were not approved in a hospital ‘the size of Hawera. It was one of the smallest* with such a staff. The chairman said the position at Hawera was quite satisfactory, and had met with keen approval'' by the public. Messrs Gillanders and Tayler were appointed delegates to represent the Hawera Board at the conference.
