There wars a huge holiday crowd at Addington to-day, the weather being brilliantly fiine—perhaps a. little too warm.

Master Ando won the first race very easily, but if An dominion, the runner up, had trotted steadily he would have won, for he had more speed than anything else in. the race. Audominion was favourite.

At a good price Prince Derby won the Enfield Handicap with a mind deal to spare from Auguste Dillon, who was very lame on returning to the birdcage. 'Bonny Logan., who \vas not very energetically ridden, was third, and Latona, a. hot favourite, sixth. The winner returned a good price.

Yilo registered rather a surprise performance in the Christchurch Handicap, leading all the way to win by a length from Dolly Dillon, with the even money favourite. Great Bingen, two lengths away third. Tara ire, who is not at his best, was fourth. The favourite was not driven with the best of judgment and, better handled, would have worn.

Kohara., a hot favourite fur the Australasian Handicap, won very easily from Harewood, who wa.s onlv half a length in front of Bare Bell and Direct at the finish.

Sahara., a three-year-old colt by Cathedral Chimes, from Bright Alice, was very confidently backed. It is unusual to find a r-old ,so confidently hacked over two miles at Addington. Nikora made no race of the Dominion Handicap, which lor the principal trotting event of the meeting, provided a poor contest. She was a good second favourite. Marion Style went an improved race into .second place, while the consistent Clonmel filled third place; then at intervals came Marvin Junior, St. Anthony and Sunny Jim.

The Hornby Handicap provided a splendid race, Ouimet, Dalnahine and Ahuriri passing the post practically in line. Ahuriri was a. good favourite, and Ouimet a liberal priced sixth favourite. There was a fair amount of interference in the race. Ahuriri and Delavan Guest being the chief sufferers.

The final event saw a false start and a collision 'between Vi.lo. Albert Ching and Realm. the last-named being withdrawn. When the real starttook place, Landlord and Pntsv Dillon did not go, 'and Great Hope, onmi>v with -a great run over the last half mile, got up to beat Ben Ohou by a little over a length. Albert. Cling was six lengths away third and Logan Chief next. OTAHUHIT ACCEPTANCES. AUCKLAND, Nov. 14. Gold Fern, Exactly 6.7. NOTES AND COMMENTS. (By Maecenas.) The Thames meeting concludes on Monday, while 'the Ashhurst Racing Club hold their annual meeting on Wednesday next. Te Kara was generally regarded as a distance performer pure and simple, but dispelled this at Hamilton on Monday last, for, carrying 8.12,' he defeated a big held of useful sprinters, returning a. big dividend, in which his connections participated. What a great bargain Mr. Cleaver secured in Passin’ Through, when he paid £25 and £25 out of the first win for the son of Guianforte.

Up to the present Reremoana has not fulfilled expectations at Riccarton, as his form at Trentham certainly suggested that Reremoana. would be prominent in more than one of the chief short distance handicaps at the .Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting. The steeplechasers seen out at the Waikato Hunt and the Waikato Racing Club’s meetings were the poorest imaginable, and although the fields in these events were good, on every occasion about four-fifths of the runners made mistakes, and in consequence these races were very tame affairs. The owner of a good “chaser” would have reaped a harvest in the cross country races at the Waikato meetings. To win on five occasions in as many starts is the record put up by Passin’ Through at Riccarton, and it may lie many a year before a jumper "will register .such a record at meetings such as arc held at Riccarton, where it is usualy hard enough to 'win once. How Passin’ Through came to get beaten in the Steeplechase at Ellerslic with 11.2 is one of those things that racegoers cannot explain. Possiblv the riding of Kaan at Ellerslic did not suit this gelding, which does hi s best for H. Hurt.

r I wo-ycar-olds are looked on as very formidable under weight-for-age conditions, and few owners of older horses care about- competing against youngsters in races of less distance than six furlongs Of recent years owners of good two-year-olds have not taken on the Electric Plate at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting, and in to-day’s contest for that weight-for-age race Shirley i. s the only youngster that was accepted for.

Wlicn speaking at a presentation held in connection with the Waikato Racing Club’s meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs stated that before deciding on the allocation of the fresh permits to racing and trotting chibs he intended visiting the courses of the various oluhs applying for permits. This means that many of those clubs applying for permits will have little or no chance. It is generally recognised that a club to-day must have good assets if they expect to carry on in racing. After seeing the South Island thToe-voar-olds racing at the spring meeting of the Ashburton Pacing Club the writer expressed the opinion in this column that North Island trained threo-vcai-olds may not have matters all their own wav in the races for that ago decided during the present spring. That the statement was not long hi being proved is shown by the success of Count Cnvour over the northerners inferno and Tanadees in the Derby at Riccarton. and the success of Stavmist over those of her sex in the Oaks at the same course. That oiir three-year-olds are not a high-class lot when asked to compete against the older division in long dis-

tance races is clearly shown by the decisive defeat of the Derby winner (Count Cavour) in the Canterbury Cup, for in a field of four the three-year-old finished last, despite the fact that it is generally agreed that Derby winners have all the best of the weight conditions when opposing older hprses, and if at all up to the standard of what one expects from a good three-year-old, are usually successful in weight-for-age races.

On the opening day of the Waikato Racing Club’s meeting Pavo ran a good race in the open sprint race, and his connections had hopes of the" Aus-tralian-bred one winning on the second day. By a clerical error Pavo’s weight for the second day appeared as 9.7, instead of 9.0, which latter' was the official weight, Pavo was ''immediately scratched; but when the trainer found out the error half-an-bour after tlie acceptances closed lie'made application to have Pavo’s name reinstated. The name of Pavo appeared in the second day’s ‘'correct card,” hut a meeting of the stewards decided that the acceptance was void. The club decided to return the nomination and acceptance fees paid by the owner of Pavo.
