BAD ORANGES.

SHIPMENT BY TAHITI. '■BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION > WELLINGTON, Aug. 5. A shipment of Raratonga oranges by the Tahiti ale turning out in had condition. The Union Company states that bananas and tomatoes were carried, and there were no defects. The trouble was confined to the oranges loaded at Raratonga, wheie the mail steamer stayed thirty 7 hours, and took all offering. The weather was perfect while- loading and on the trip to AYellington, which occupied under five days, compared with the Ngakuta's nine days. The high percentage of wastage in the fruit is attributed, not to the steamer, but the condition of the fruit itself. The company agreed to give the new service a fair trial because of the manifest advantage to the Dominion of the distribution of fruit from a central position, instead of landing every cargo at the extreme end of the country.
