ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION-) DUNEDIN, Aug.. 3. E. C. Coxhead, manager for Messrs Briscoe and Co. at Tiinaru, who was admitted to hospital on Friday_niglit as a result of a motor accident, died oil Saturday evening while under an anaesthetic. Deceased, who was aged 62, entered the employ of Messrs Briscoe and Co. 38 years ago. and was well known through the South Island. FATALITY FEARED. AUCKLAND, Aug. 3. Fears are entertained for the safety of H. G. Backstraw, for many years watchman on the Union Company’s coal hulk Talune. His dinghey was picked up floating awash in the harbour on Saturday morning. It is thought the tackle broke while he was hauling the boat on board on Friday night, precipitating him into the water. He was an elderly man.
