DOMINION’S POPULATION.
INCREASE IN JUNE QUARTER. NORTH ISLAND GAINS WHILE SOUTH LOSES. The returns of population for the period ended June 30 indicate that the total increase in the Dominion for the June quarter was .1973 (including Maoris), comprising a net. gain of 4143 by natural increase and a ’loss of 2170 by migration. Compared with the cotlesponding quarter of the preceding vear, the net gain from natural increase in 1924 was slightly lower, due to a falling off in the number of births ; •1? lie j OSS rom migration was considerably lower than was experienced in June quarter, 1924. During the June quarter of 1924 the population (including Maoris) of the North Island increased by 3f)04; that of the South Island suffered a decrease of 1031.
