CIGARETTES.
SALES TO HIGH SCHOOL BOYS. “There seems to me to be something urong when the High School authorities have to complain that their pupils, uho are under the age of 1.5 years are being supplied with cigarettes hv tobacconists,” said Mr. A M. Mowlem, S.M., in the New Plymouth Ma gistrate s Court yesterday morning, when dealing with a number of cases in which some dealers in tobacco and cigarettes, or their employees, were charged with supplying boys under 15 years of age with cigarettes. ‘ < A complaint had been made by the -k** School authorities, and ns a re* suit of investigations these proceedings wore brought. All the casses were in respect of High School boys, whose ages 1 anged from 10 years to 14 years. The defendants were Ivy Feakins (two chaiges), j ictor Hamblyn, F. A. James and W. H. James. ’
The Magistrate in fining each defendant 5s said there ought, he thought, to bo some provision for the punishment of tile boys for trying to obtain cigarettes when under age. Mr. Bennett -. In these cases, sir the hoys have had their punishment at the High School.
