MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. (BY TELEGRAPH-.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 1. John Charles Pearson, aged 33, a married man, a labourer in the employ of the Ashburton Power Board, was killed this afternoon as the result, of the motor-cycle he was riding getting out of control and crashing into a telegraph pole. WOUND IN BACK. AUCKLAND, Aug. 1. Robert Wera, aged 22, was admitted to the hospital in Auckland for a wound in the back. It was stated that other youths were walking behind Wera and playing with a rifle when the weapon unexpectedly exploded. An operation was performed last night. The patient’s condition is serious. FATALITY AT WEDDING. WELLINGTON, Aug. 2. The inquest on the Dixon street fatality was unexpectedly opened before due date to hear the evidence of Vivian Perkins, of Morrinsville. brother of the bride. He was sitting in the fatal car with the driver when the car jumped forward. The latter tried tq apply the hand brakes, but they failed, and he then used the foot brake with, effect. Witness said he knew nothing about cars. His impression was that the driver knew his business and did his best. He was quite sober.
