One of the saddest deaths it has been our duty to chronicle (says the Opunake Times) took place at New Plymouth Hospital on Wednesday afternoon. when Mrs S. Newport, ‘wife of Mi George Newport, of Opunake, passed an <iy. A pleasing little function took place at the- Opunake School on Tuesday when presentations were made by the pupils and teachers to Mr. Cron and Miss Cron. Miss J. McLean, on behalf of the teachers, in presenting Mr. Cron with a fountain pen and Miss Cion with a set of cutlery, referred to the esteem in which the recipients were held by the staff. Mr. Cron was also, the recipient of a handsome suitcase from the pupils, Miss Peggy Burton making the presentation in a neat address. Mr. Cron was also the recipient of a travelling rug from the school committee. It is understood that Mr. AY. Curtis will act as relieving headmaster pending the appointment of Mr. Cron’s successor.
