A good story is told in connection with the presentation to the King of a burly' representative of the Maori race. It occurred during the war period. Henare. dazzled by the splendour of the court surroundings and the gorgeous uniforms of the attendants. stood spellbound in front of His Majesty. The King, in his genial way, spoke kindle to Henare, who losing all his bashfulness, exclaimed: “By korry, boss, you got to hoska fine whare here.” The king is s aid to have laughed heartily at the criticism.
