PERSONAL ITEMS.
The many friends of Mr. Joseph Northover will regret to learn of his djeaht, which occurred at the Wanganui Hospital yesterday afternoon, after an illness lasting for several months (says tike Chronicle).- The late Mr. Northover was in his 76th year, and was one of the most highly respected citizens of Marfcon. He was the managing foreman on the Rangitikei Advocate for a period of thirty years, after which he acquired the Railway and Clu)> Hotels at Marton. On the death of his wife he retired from active business The deceased gjdjntlemaju was a keen svortsman, a splendid shot, and an enthusiastic angler. A family of five sons —Messrs Joseph (Auckland), Herbert- and Richard (Wanganui) Harold (Eltham), and Louis (Marton) and lour daughters—Mesdames Wainw, right and McKinley (Wanganui), Bennett (Whangarei), and -Miss Northover (Auckland) are loft to mourn their loss.
At the Wanganui East School on Thursday afternoon the scholars were assembled to bid farewell to Mr. \Y. J. Andrew, who was that dav retiring on superannuation after over‘4o years’ service. A large number of parents were also present. Mr. Andrew, at the outset, said that he washed to present to the school two pictures as a- memorial to those lads from the school who went to the front in the late war. Mr Gohns gave an outline of Mr. Andrew’s career, first a s pupil teacher, and afterwards as teacher, until the time of his retirement, stating that at one time Mr Andrew had been an ardent volunteer. On behalf of the parents and scholars lie asked Mr Andrew to accept a wallet, which was well filled, and hoped that both he and Mrs Andrew would have the best of health, and a long life of prosperity. He asked Mrs. Ajndrcw to accept from the scholars a bouquet.
