QUEEN CARNIVAL BALL. Evidence of the sustained interest in the Kaponga Queen Carnival functions was demonstrated at the Town Hall last evening, when a large assembly of dancers attended the ball organised by the Sports Committee to assist their nominee, Miss M. Crowley. The wellarranged programme afforded a most pleasurable evening, which will rank prominently among the many successful social gatherings held during the carnival. A waltzing competition attracted a large number of contestants, necessitating several relays, the final award of the judges (Messrs W. R. O. Spooner and A. Vinsen) being made in favour of Mrs R. C. Mellow, partnered by Mr P. Briggs. The lady’s prize was a pretty salad bowl, and her partner received some useful toilet requisites. Additional attraction was provided by a number of Swiss national dances, which created much interest. The music rendered by Mrs Evans’ orchestra, assisted by Mr A. Vinsen, delighted the dancers and the excellence of the supper provided by the ladies’ committee was freely commended. In the supper room decorations the blue and gold colours of the -sports queen candidate were used with pleasing effect. Officiating as M.C.’s were Messrs M. Cornerford and R. Hammersley, whose courteous attention to their duties was accorded the approval of the happy throng of dancers, and sustained interest in the programme until its conclusion shortly after two o’clock this morning. The committee desires to thank Mr R. Williams for his kindness in permitting the use of b.is kitchen on the occasion, of the sale on Friday last.
