NEW ZEALAND’S GROWING TRADE.

Statistics published for the six months which ended on June 30 show that NewZealand’s trade is growing steadily, and the balance is in our favour. The totpl trade for the period amounted to £55,937,769, of which £22,644,403 represented imports and £33,293,366 exports, leaving a balance of £10,648,963 in New Zealand’s favour. An outstanding feature is the importation of motor vehicles, ovhich are coming into the country at an increasing rate. If the rate is maintained, the Statistician says, the total for 1924 will easily eclipse the record of 1920. Increased trade with Germany is also recorded. The trade of the next six months of the year is hardly likely to reach the total of the first six months, for exports are at their lowest during July, August and September, though imports may show an increase as the Christmas season approaches. The position will no doubt be regarded as satisfactory, and it is possible that this year may see the Dominion’s trade reach the £100,000,000 mark. The larger her trade the more important will New Zealand he regarded in. the eyes of the world; and the brighter will be her prospects for rapid progress and development. .. With the Dominion’s credit standing so high in London, and with the increasing trade which the returns disclose, the outlook is decidedly bright and should be an incentive to the people to work hard for the welfare of the country.
