Rifle Shooting.

COLEMAN SHIELD. GOOD SHOOTING. TIE BETWEEN GUARDS AND RANFURLY RIFLES. CHAMPION BELT WON BY BUGLER HAY. The fourteenth annual shoot for Coleman Shield and the Champion Belt, also presented by Mr j. H. Coleman, took place at the Roy's Hill rifle range yesterday. Five teams entered this year, namely, Napier Rifles, Hastings Rifles. Napier Guards, Hawke's Bay Mounted Rifles and Ranfurly Rifle?. The conditions for the Shield were: Twelve men teams, seven shots at 200, 500, and 600 yards. The twelve highest scorers shot off, ten shots at 700 yards, for the Belt. In the shoot-off for the Champion Belt, Bugler Hay of the Napier Guards, came out t>n top, and. will have the honor of holding the Belt for twelve months. Money prizes were won be Sergeant Humphries (Hawke's Bay Mounted Rifles), who also won the BoltenCup presented by Major Bolten, Sergeant McLeod (Hastings Rifles', Corporal Young (Ranfurlv Rifles), . Sergeant James (Napier Guards), Colour-Sergeant Grindell (Napier Rifles) and Corporal Proffit (Napier Rifles). Mr F. W. Williams was the range officer in charge yesterday, and was assisted by Lieutenant-Colonel Russell, Major Ringland, Captain and Adjutant Simm and Captains Colebourne and Holderness.
