The match occupied two hours, Hm last set taking 40 minutes. Brookes was not just at his best. He was wanting that unerring precision which earned him the chamjpionship of the world. Wilding was undoubtedly better <kan he was on the day he won the .fireat contest fairly on his merits, and he played even better than when -*e defeated the American, Alexan«*da; in the Dav's Cup.
