"SUCCESS AT CANTERBURY
SHOW
Commenting on the merino class at the Canterbury Show the ** Lyttle<foa Times " says that last year the ••amber of entries in fine combing -aaerinos was 13, this year the num tier had grown by six. For some -*naie past Mr C. Ensor has had this dass pretty well to himself, but the exhibits of a redoubtable competitor, JKrR. DD. McLean, of Maraekakaho Station, Hawke's Bay. were in evideoce this year, and the judges. Messrs F. H.Smith, of Albury, and A. Bell (Blenheim) thought so highly *& a four-tooth ram bred by this »i«iting exhibit r, that they awarded -%im the first prize and championslrip. Generally speaking, however <fae ewes were the higher quality .sheep all through the fine combing "aaerinos, and some of the rams shown were rather poor. Though -'Mr McLean's entries numbered five lo Mr Ensor's fourteen, yet the for--aaer exhibitor annexed (besides the award mentioned above) first and champion, and second and reserve champion for ewes above 16 or -wilder 28 menths; first for a two*ooth ewe and second for a pen oft ''f&ree ewes under 18 months. Mr ~Wmsat gained first and second for mmm above 28 months, second and fttghly commended for four-tooth axams, first in a class for a pair of mro-tooth rams {the onlv entry), saaeooad for his single entry in the *- class for five flock rams, and he also -taofc a first for a pen of three two•itoothewes.
