The Supreme Court criminal sittings opened to-day before Judge Denniston. Charging the Grand Jury, he said the calendar was not long, and with the exception of two cases none were very serious. Even taking the eight cases for sentence, he thought the calendar was ci editable, and one showing the law-abiding propensities of the people in the district. There was only one serious case, of not a very difficult character, against Arthur J. V\. Roberts, that he murdered Alice Ethel Newman. The case was of such a nature as to give the Grand Jury but little trouble, as the evidence established the fact that Roberts fired the shots.
