Captain Edwin telegraphed at noon to-day : Easterly moderate to strong winds, glass little movement. Indications of rain after 24 hours.

The next quarterly summoned meeting of the Eureka Lodge, No. 6S, U.A.0.D., will be held in the old Library, Market street, on Wednesday, 18th inst., at 7.30 p.m. On Saturday evening the Maddison cup, won at the Hastings Cycling Club's sports on November gth, was on view at Farrelly's cycle shop. The Phcenix racing machine, built at Farrelly's, upon which H. Wann was so successful was also exhibited.

Mr Milward, stationmaster, who has been transferred from Balclutha to Hastings, arrived on Saturday evening, and will take over his new duties to-morrow. Mr Heald. who has been transferred to Carterton, leaves for that place on Wednesday morning.

On Saturday afternoon, Mr C. Hcald, stationmaster at Hastings, was presented with a Gladstone bag from the local railway staff. The presentation was made by Mr Clark, of the goods department, who spoke in eulogistic terms of the esteem jn which Mr Heald is held by the railway employees. Mr Heald suitably responded.
