SECRETS OF PERPETUAL YOUTH.

The secrets of perpetual youth have just been disclosed by Dr Stenson Hooker in a lecture on "How Not To Grow- Old" before the Psycho-Thera-peutic Society. The secret of it all may bo summed up, according to Dr. Hooker, in the words "Don't worry." AVitli regard to the merely physical, he declared that much could be done in warding off signs of old age by carefill ami preisistcnt attention to diet. "As we get on in years we require still less and more simple diet, due regard being paid to quality as well as quantity," he said. "Exercise is also most important. We nil stop running, for instance, far too *-oon in life. If we would only keep up games, walking, and running longer than we do we should 1 cheat old age. "The mental aspect of the question is most important. The whole world is in need of 'suggestion treatment' in thia respect, for it has somehow got it into its stupid head that we must be old men and women at, say, seventy years of age or even sooner. T'.iat is ridiculous, and the sooner a different idea is driven into our sub-conscious minds the bettor. If a man thinks he is going to be old ia,t sixty, ho as ure:lly will be. "Married people seem to live longer than single onoi, therefore my advico is, Get married.' "Also get a pension, and one which lias been fairly earned. Never worry, tor that is fatal; always be calm and serene. Be optimistic at a:l times. "The miserable, croaking pessimist will grow old, and ugly as well, very soon. In. a word be temperate, simple, cheerful, uispirational, charitable, and you will live to a great age.

A FAMOUS WOMAN

As a Famous Man Saw Her.

Charles Readc's epitome of tho character of Ellen Terry is worth giving here. Miss Terry has just appeared as Su-sau Mertoii in the dramatisation of tho writer's famous book, "It is Never too late to Mend.'' Reade's opinion of Miss Terry at this period, when she was about twenty-six, is interesting now that sho is on the- eve of her fiftyeighth birthday. "Ellen Terry is an enigma," he said. "Her eyes are pale, her nose rather long, her mouth nothing particular, complexion a delicate brick-dust, her hair rather like tow, Yet, somehow, she is beautiful. Her expression kills any pretty face you see beside her. Her figure is lean mid lxmy, her hand masculine in size and form. Yet she is pattern of fawnlike grace. Whether in movement or repose, grace pervades the hnssj. In character impulsive, intelligent, weak. hysterical—in short, all that is abominable and charming in woman. Klien Terry is a very charming actress, I see through and through her. Vet- she pleases me all the same. Little duck-"
