The advertised balloon ascent on the Ridge football ground to-day did not take p!ace owing to the balloon catching tire while being inflated, and a large hole being burnt in its top. The aeronaut has arranged to make another attempt next Saturday from the same grounds, and the Rugby Union will make a concession by only charging 6d for admission. After spending a busy morning receiving deputaiions, the Hon George Fowlds had luncheon with the Mayor (Mr T. J. Thompson). In the afternoon three motor cars were requisitioned, and a large party accompanied the Minister to the Arataki Experimental Station. The Hon Mr Fowlds, with his son and daughter, leave for Napier by the 5 o'clock train thi*> evening.
