On a charge of committing an indecent act in Heretaunga street, the same person was fined £l, or in default, 48 hours imprisonment. A committee meeting of the Hastings Poultry Society was held last evening, when there was a .good attendance. Arrangements were made to entertain the visiting fanciers at a banquet on the first night of the Show. Messrs M. Johnson and B. C. McCormick will supervise the penning of poultr and pigeons respectively. The disgusting practice of drunken men committing indecent acts in the streets of the borough, evidently .requires more drastic action being taken to prevent its repetition. The offences are becoming far too frequent. The creatures who commit this-kind of offence must have lost all sense of decency, and they should be very severely dealt with. A month's imprisonment, without the option of a fine, might have the desired effect. A very successful social was held in St. Andrews' Hall last evening in aid of the Star of Hope Lodge, 1.0. G.T., Mr Fenn, D.C.T., ably filled the choir. The hall was crowded. Songs were given by Messrs Lewis, Pritchard, Anderson and Donaldson, and Mrs Pendington and Miss Mark; recitations by Miss Gibbs and Mr Cameron; Miss and Mr Gelhorgave two ductsviolin an piano. Mr Liddle gave a spritualistic item, Mr Fenn a reading and Mr Miller gave a good sketch on " The History of his Life," after which refreshments were handed round and whole concluded with a laughable farce entitled "Engaging Artists for the Olymphic Theatre. Mr Edmonds ably took the leading part, and Mr Lewis caused much laughter by his impersonation of the office boy, the other parts were ably sustained by Messrs Walker, Larrett, Pritchard and Anderson. The meeting closed with the singing of 'God Save the King."
